Sinful's Courtney Orange

Well I know that Halloween is a ways off and that most people would have left this color for review at that time. I however do not celebrate Halloween and I felt like seeing what my first orange nail polish looked like on my hands.  This color Courtney Orange is from Sinful Colors 2009 collection.
Since this blog is for people like myself just getting into polishing I decided this time to show you what my hands look like from start to finish. I knew after a polish test that I would need to double up on the base coat. I always do a polish because I like to be able to sometimes where nothing but clear polish and need them to be white. A good base coat keeps the nails looking like the picture below. I also overlapped the base coat just to make sure that I could get any mistakes cleaned up easy.
I only had to use two coats of the polish due to the richness of the color. I have to say this also went on without any streaks or splotches. I really liked this color and I am not a orange person. I think the color while vibrant is not loud. My accent nail was done with my dotting tools I purchased from amazon.com. I would like to say thank you to Teddi from the blog Teddi's Tips. I placed two drops of Caribbean Cocktail by Sephora by OPI on a piece of paper. I then took my large dotting tool and just dipped it in one time and then placed it on the nail. This was the first time that I used the tool and I found that I am going to need to find a way to make the polish thicker for the larger dot tool. The larger dots are the only dots that ran. They had more of a oval shape then circular one.
Well until the next sinful moment have a great time.

I'm a Nail Junkie on the island of Fiji.

After my first attempt at a water marble I really began to like Sinful Colors nail polish. After picking up some hard to find colors I decided to do a month long tribute to Sinful Colors.  This first manicure is of two colors.

Fiji is a beautiful purple. It starts off looking like a thin layer of grape jelly. As you apply more coats it gets to be so much deeper with almost a mirror shine. I have on four coats. I would have gone to six because I just could not believe how great this color was looking. It went on smooth. This is one color that I was not putting on more coats to cover up streaks.

Nail Junkie is light blue base with multi colored and size glitter. I only put one coat on because I wanted the Fiji to still be seen but just jazz it up a bit. While I only did this as a accent nail I will one day make this my complete manicure. I feel that it is interesting to wear as a night out on the town but still professional enough to wear to the office.

Clean up of the excess polish was easy since it was only the first coat that was outside of nail bed. I can not wait until my next polish! Check back and see what color I do next.

A Little to Bright for Me

I have learned my first lesson with ordering polish off the internet site unseen. Please don't get me wrong I never thought it would be exactly as I saw it online.
However I never thought it would be soooo far off. I ordered six polishes during Zoya's buy one get one free. I picked the color Kylie2 because it looked like a soft coral with a nice shine. When I put it on the color screamed at me. It was almost neonish. I figured okay maybe like paint on a canvas it has to dry to tone down.

My only problem with the drying is that the polish because it was streaky required four coats of polish. So one hour later and I still had this almost glow in the dark color on my nails. So now I am wondering what to do? Do I take the time to remove it? No, because I have somewhere to be in two hours an could not get my nails clean and painted in that time (remember I am newbie to this). So then I decided let's cover it up only leaving one nail clean as the accent nail. Okay so what to cover it up with???? I needed something subtle without a high shine factor. NYC Starry Silver Glitter would do just the trick.

I like the NYC polish because it does not have to much glitter in it so one coat can give just enough coverage so that the glitter is a accent instead of a cover up. I was not totally happy however I made do.

If you love bright colors then this color will be the one for you. I still like Zoya but I will definitely be giving this one away. Until next time keep on polishing.

Colored French Tip Mani

So today I did a French manicure in non traditional colors. This was my first time trying this and I think it came out pretty good.

I used Zoya Faith as my base color. I was not sure when looking at it on Zoya's website (www.zoya.com) that I would like it but at the time I was going thru some things and the name said so much to me. This beatuiful pink that is almost red really is not done justice on the web or just looking at it in the bottle. My only complaint is that it is a little streaky even at three coats.

The tip is done in my third favorite color Gunmetal by Sally Hansen. I also used that color for my accent nail. I just could not resist. I adore the shimmer and the subtle blue in the gunmetal. I can say this mani takes a steady hand and some patience. I waited at least 40 minutes after the Faith dried before I placed the Orly french tip guides on the nail. A few suggestions for the tips, I would make sure when using the guides that you run a finger across the entire strip. If like myself you have cute chubby hands you will want to trim the guides so that the egdes don't run. Finally allow at least a seven minute dry time between coats to keep the guides from wrinkling up with moisture and allowing polish under the guide. After you remove the guide if you find that the line created is a bump put your top coat on in reverse and it will smooth that bump right out.

So for all the first timers who are trying this just remember to set aside at least 1.5 hours for this manicure.

First Time Marbling

I have always like nail polish but never thought I had the nails for it. I always felt like you had to have the perfect curved nails like in the blog Teddi's Tips to warrant polishing them. Plus I would never let them grow past nubs since they interfered with things like basketball, bowling, playing piano and most importantly at that time making a fist, LOL.

A few years ago my child asked me to go my nails out because he thought my already pretty hands would look better with some nails. So I agreed to go them out. I started off painting solid colors. I changed my colors once every four days if they did not chip. I then moved on to a accent nail. I am now trying some of the techniques my friend Tedisa has told me. This is my first water marble.

There are four colors in this water marble. I started with two coats of Jordana Garlic Growth Basecoat. I then in a small top 3/4 full of water put one drop of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Gunmetal, and two drops of the following; Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Purple Potion, Zoya Marina, and Sinful Colors Let's Meet. I finished with a top coat of Seche Vite.

This being my first marble I am okay with the look. I did learn a few things. One is that not all colors even those made by the same company are not created equal. The Gunmetal would not spread like the other colors which made me over mix so a couple of the nails look muddy. I will never use that color first anymore. The Let's Meet spread the easiest which I probably would need three drops if used as the first color. I also found that the tape needs to pull the sides of the fingers down tight to get the sides of the nail. Also because the polish is wet if you don't like the marble you can remove it with the wipe of a slightly damp napkin within the first five to ten seconds tops.

Well until next time keep on polishing!
